Seventy two years of construction experience in positions ranging from laborer, apprentice carpenter and carpenter, to superintendent, estimator and general contractor.

Work in all phases of construction, specializing in damage repair work, including experience in estimating and reconstruction of buildings damaged by fire, wind, water, motor vehicles, earth movement and construction defects.

This type of work is estimated and contracted by Ted S. Merrill & Sons, Inc. with the federal and state governments, local cities, school districts, insurance companies, and individual owners of residential, commercial and industrial buildings.


Construction Defect Experience

Fifty five years estimating defective structures

Fifty five years of experience in cost estimating structures with construction defect problems, including giving testimony at settlement conferences and depositions. Qualified and testified as an expert in Municipal, Superior and Federal courts.

Judicial appointment

Appointed to serve as an impartial repair method and cost expert by judges of the San Diego and Orange County Superior Courts.


Arbitration Experience

Fifty two years as umpire and arbitrator

Fifty two years acting as umpire and arbitrator in construction related issues, including insurance appraisal panels convened under the policy appraisal clause and contractual construction arbitration.

  • State of California Contractor, Class B-1 Personal license #275171, acquired 1972
  • State of California Contractor, Class B-1 Corporation license #345079, acquired 1977

Both licenses remain current. Ted S. Merrill & Sons, Inc. has operated under its corporation license continuously since 1977.
