Construction services for high stakes projects

Seven service lines, one licensed firm, and one principal accountable for all of it. Whether the assignment ends in a repair contract or a courtroom, the underlying work is the same: find the real problem, document it properly, and price it accurately.

Service Lines

What we are retained to do

Select any service below for scope, deliverables and the kinds of engagements it typically involves. Every one of them is led personally by the principal.

Construction Defect Investigation and Analysis

Water intrusion, envelope failure, framing and structural deficiencies, roofing and flashing defects, stucco and siding failure, deck and balcony waterproofing, plumbing and mechanical deficiencies. We determine cause, extent and the correct repair, then price it.

Construction Defect Services

Forensic Cost Estimating and Scope Development

Defensible repair cost opinions for litigation, mediation, insurance claims, reserve studies and capital planning. Written scope first, then bids solicited against that scope, then a line item estimate with markups disclosed.

Estimating Services

Fire, Water and Catastrophic Damage Reconstruction

Fire, smoke, wildfire, flood, storm, wind, plumbing failure and vehicle impact. Emergency stabilization through complete rebuild, coordinated with the carrier, the adjuster and the building department.

Reconstruction Services

Foundation, Settlement and Earth Movement Repair

Differential settlement, expansive soil damage, landslide and slope failure, retaining wall failure, slab cracking and post tension distress. Repair scope developed with the geotechnical and structural engineers of record.

Foundation Services

Commercial, Institutional and Public Works Construction

School districts, municipalities, state and federal agencies, commercial landlords and institutional owners. Tenant improvements, seismic and accessibility upgrades, code compliance work and multifamily reconstruction.

Commercial Services

Emergency Response, Stabilization and Documentation

Board up, shoring, temporary weather protection, debris removal coordination and immediate photographic documentation. Securing the property and preserving the evidence are the same task.

Emergency Services

Insurance Appraisal, Umpire and Claim Support

Party appraiser and neutral umpire assignments under the policy appraisal clause, carrier estimate review, scope reconciliation, supplemental claim development and code upgrade coverage analysis.

Appraisal Services

Expert Witness and Litigation Support

Expert reports, deposition and trial testimony, mediation and settlement conference support, rebuttal analysis of opposing expert estimates, and court appointed neutral repair expert assignments.

Engagement Types

Three ways clients typically retain us

Consulting only

Investigation, scope development and a cost of repair opinion, with no construction relationship. Common where counsel needs an independent number, or where an owner is deciding whether a claim is worth pursuing.

Designated expert

Retention as a testifying construction and cost of repair expert, including report preparation, deposition, rebuttal of opposing estimates, and trial or arbitration testimony.

Construction contract

Performance of the repair or reconstruction under our own California license, on a fixed price or cost plus basis, with the scope we developed or one prepared by others.
